If you are planning on getting married in Turkey please note that only civil marriage is legally recognized in Turkey. Religious marriages are very much part of a tradition in Turkey however they have no legal recognition. Couples who are getting married in Turkey fulfill a civil marriage process and a religious one in addition.

Conditions To Get Married In Turkey

There are several conditions that need to be met by foreigners who wish to marry in front of Turkish authorities. 

To be 18 years old or older. If one of the parties is younger than that, they need a written consent from their parents. 

  • They should not have any mental illness
  • Parts cannot be close relatives to each other
  • If you have a previous divorce, you will need to prove your divorse or marriage dissolution. 

Please be aware that only marriages between a man and a woman are allowed in Turkey. Also if you are marrying a Turkish woman who has been previously divorced, she has to wait 300 days before being able to marry another person regardless of their nationality. 

Documents Required For Marriage In Turkey

If you are planning to get married in Turkey you will need to submit a few documents to the Turkish authorities such as identifications, photos, a petition, certificates of celibacy and a health certificate. This does not include any documents you might need to submit to your own consulate to get your civil marriage in Turkey approved.
